Movement Building Director
Rebeca currently serves as the Movement Building Director at Working Partnerships USA, where she has worked since 2020. Born and raised in Gilroy to Chicano activist parents, Rebeca cut her teeth organizing student walkouts against the first Gulf War and against “zero tolerance” policies in schools that criminalized Chicano and Mexicano students. Rebeca continued organizing students, workers and community as a college student during the dark times of Governor Pete Wilson, and Propositions 187, 184, 205 and 209. She brings over three decades of student, political, community and labor organizing to the table. As a proud progressive, Rebeca was elected to the Gilroy City Council in 2020 and is currently serving her first term. She is a fierce advocate for racial and economic justice, and is passionate about grassroots organizing, worker empowerment and youth leadership development. Rebeca has also served as an Assembly District 29 Delegate to the California Democratic Party since 2008, and is Chair of Diversity and Inclusion for the Executive Board of the Santa Clara County Democratic Party. She helped create the Santa Clara County Rapid Response Network, is a founding Board Member of Movimiento Democratic Coalition, CARAS (Community Agency for Resources, Advocacy and Service), and serves on the Boards of SIREN (Services, Immigrant Rights and Education Network), Pit Stop Outreach, The Human Agenda, The Chosen Ones Foundation and Cipactlan. Rebeca and her three children live in Gilroy, where her roots run four generations deep. She believes seeking social justice is a way of life.
